Nathan "Whitey" Howard, 77, of Belchertown, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at home.

He was born, in Asheville, N.C., April 7, 1928. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Fleurent in 1994. Burial will be in the spring at Quabbin Park Cemetery in Ware. ALLIE GAMMONS SOUTHERN FAIRVIEW Allie Gammons Southern, 61, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 3, 2005, after a brief illness. A native of Surry County, she was the daughter of Zoy and Ruby Forrest Gammons of Mount Airy.

She worked as a nursing assistant for Fleshers Fairview Rest Home for nine years and was a member of Albion Baptist Church in Surry County. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Denise Mabe and husband, Mitchell, and a Mount granddaughter, Airy; sister, Kalie Tincy Mabe, Parries all of the home; and two brothers, Charles Gammons of Mount Airy and Bobby Gammons of Gilbert, S.C. CARL ANDREW GRASTY MAGGIE VALLEY Carl Andrew Grasty, 89, of Maggie Valley, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 22, 1915, to the late Oscar and Minnie Setzer Grasty.

Carl was a devoted family man. He served, during Army World and War he owned and operated Grastys Service Center since 1965. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hortense Miller Grasty, one brother, Tom Grasty and one sister, Elizabeth Grasty. He is survived by two sons, Skip Grasty of Waynesville and Fred Grasty of Maggie Valley; brother, Guy Grasty of Waynesville; sister, Wilma Parris of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Selena Williamson and her husband, Jeff, of Maggie Valley and Cody Grasty of Maggie Valley; and great-grandchild, Luke Williamson of Maggie Valley. The family will receive friends in Jackson Hall following the service. Mr. McLean died Thursday, March 3, 2005. Born in Florence and raised in Bennettsville, he was the son of Pauline Proctor and the late Hector McLean Sr. He was a 1963 graduate of Clemson University, where he was program director of WSBF Radio.

He formerly served as vice president Continental Consultants, vice president of sales for Edens and Avant, president of American Computer Professionals and was president of Hector McLean and Associates in partnership with Genie Matthews and Associates. Mr. McLean was a former chairman of the Columbia Area Mental Health Board, was former president of Five Points Rotary and also a Paul Harris Fellow, served on the board of S.C. Labor Commission and was a member of Forest Lake Club. Mr.

McLean was a member of First Presbyterian Church and active in the Mens Bible Study Group. He attended Bald Mountain Baptist Church when visiting his summer home in Hendersonville, N.C. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Connor McLean; son and daughterin McLean of Hector Greenville; McLean his and mother Kristen of Laurel Crest; sister, Elizabeth McLean Donovan of Charlotte, N.C.; niece, Elizabeth McLean Donovan; and nephew, William Carpender Donovan. PEARL P. MANN CANDLER Pearl Octavia Pressley Mann, 90, of 14 Center Candler, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home. She was a native of Haywood County and lived most of her life in Buncombe County. She was a daughter of the late Harley and Carrie Motes Pressley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, the Rev.

Howard H. Mann who died in 1996, a daughter, Shirley Maxine Whiteside and a brother, Mark Pressley. Mrs. Mann was a member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter; Kathy M.

CARL JACKSON CORN ASHEVILLE Carl Jackson Corn, 79, of 138 Michigan Asheville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 3, Mr. Corn was native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a dedicated member of Riverside Baptist Church. He was a retired bricklayer and life member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for 50 Carl years. He was a Corn World War veteran, serving with the Navy from 1943 to 1946.

He was a son of the late Carl Harris Corn and Willie Deloria Laster Corn. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Corn and a twin sister, Jessie Dielmann. Mr. Corn is survived by his wife, Virginia M. Corn of the home; daughters, Sonya A.

James C. Ray, 78, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 1, 2 2005, at his residence. Born Aug. 27, 1926, in Yancey County, he was a son of the late Ozain Ray and Eula Styles Ray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry and Jackie Ray four brothers, Frank, Earl, Bobby and Ken Ray.

The Rev. Ray was a member of West Marion Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a minister, deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school director and served as an, assistant Scout master for Troop 209 for three years. He attended Gardner-Webb College and attended Harvard. The Rev. Ray retired from Drexel Furniture Co.

with 40 years of service. His friends and co-workers knew him fondly as "Boney." He be remembered as a wonderful, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. The Rev. Ray is survived by his wife, Iva J. JAMES FORBES SR. HENDERSONVILLE James Howard Forbes 64, of Hendersonville, died Thursday, March 3, 2005. Penland Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Services, DEAN 'UNCLE' ROBINSON ASHEVILLE Dean "Uncle" Robinson, 70, of Asheville, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005, after a period of declining health. He was a native of Cherokee County but lived most of his life in Asheville. Dean was a veteran of the Navy, serving in the Korean War.

He had been employed with Ingle's and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Dean was loved by many and will be sadly missed, especially by his buddy Rodney. His parents, William and Minnie Painter Robinson, preceded him in death. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Kelly Marie Robinson of Leicester, and stepson, Wallace Harold Robinson Jr. of Asheville; two brothers, Ray Robinson and spouse, Rosalee, of Cherokee and Jack Robinson of Washington, sister, Romona Rice and husband, Rodney, of Asheville; stepsister, Phyllis Powell of Asheville; grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

MARTHA PILGRIM BRADLEY MARION Martha Pilgrim Bradley, 83, Marion, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at The McDowell Hospital. Born Jan. 12, 1922, in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late John Henry Pilgrim and Eula Geneva Sisk Pilgrim. Ms. Bradley attended Eastside Baptist Church and previously attended Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a member.

She was a homemaker, and many considered her the "community beautician." Ms. Bradley is survived by two sons, Gary Bradley and his wife, Rosie, and their children, Brad and Seth, and Larry Bradley and his wife, Kathey, and their son, Erik, all of Marion; two stepgrandchildren, Jeannine Woodrow and Jamie Baucom; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Ms. Bradley will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, with the Revs.

He was born on March 19, 1961, to Mable Jennings Hayes and Woodrow W. Hayes of Asheville, N.C. He traveled with his military famiy to Hawaii and Taiwan, settling in the greater Washington, D.C., area. He graduated from Potomac High in 1979. In 1981, he married Connie Fletcher of Moorhead, Minn.

He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1985 and went on to pursue a master of divinity at New Orleans Theological Seminary and graduated in 1986. Under God's direction, he served in inner-city ministry and pastorates in New Orleans until 1991 and in Norcross, from 1991-94. In 1994, he became the executive director of the Western Carolina Rescue Mission in Asheville, N.C., and served until 1999. In early 1999, he accepted a position serving the homeless the New York City Rescue Mission. He is survived by his parents, Woodrow and Mable Hayes of Asheville, N.C., and brother, Steve Hayes of Fredrick, and his wife, Connie Hayes, and four children, Alicia, Nathan, Matthew and Jillian.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Riverside Community Church, 50 Union Nutley, N.J. Surviving are her son, Johnny Mac Brown and his wife, Sheila, of Clyde; two daughters, Vicky Bryson and her husband, Charles, of Sylva and Norma Jean Carpendar and her husband, William, of Maggie Valley; four brothers, Clifford Owen of Waynesville, Ray Owen of Clyde, Medford Owen of Waynesville and Danny Owen of Clyde; two sisters, Lois Harris of Waynesville and Lucy Ford of Newport, 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
