Euphoria Season 3's Best Future Is Following This Beloved British Teen Drama's Final Season Approach (2024)

Summary

  • Euphoria season 3 faces obstacles in production, but a time jump could refresh the show and simplify filming logistics.
  • Skins UK season 7 structure could inspire Euphoria season 3 to focus on standalone episodes for character evolution.
  • Ending Euphoria after season 3 makes sense to maintain interest and streamline the storyline with select characters.

Euphoria's best chance of making its third season a success is by following the final season approach of one of Britain's most popular teen dramas. Euphoria season 3 was announced over two years ago, but production has not even started. Thanks to the lack of filming updates, there are concerns that Euphoria season 3 might not even happen. Rumors surfaced earlier this year that HBO was prepared to walk away from Euphoria if there wasn't a clear path forward to bring the show back.

Euphoria season 2's ending left plenty of plot threads dangling, so there has to be another chapter to satisfyingly conclude the show. With the series facing so many obstacles, taking inspiration from a British teen drama's final season could decide whether Euphoria season 3 is worthwhile to chart what's next for the students of East Highland High School. Of course, there will be some significant changes for the characters in the years since leaving high school, which could turn out to be a blessing in disguise to keep the show fresh and exciting.

Skins season 7 worked because it mimicked real life in that many people aren't friends with the same people as in their formative years.

Skins season 7 consisted of three movies that charted the next steps of some of the series' most popular characters. Cassie Ainsworth (Hannah Murray), Effy Stonem (Kaya Scodelario), and James Cook (Jack O'Connell) took center stage in their respective movies to reveal what happened after their time at college. Aging the characters would be the best method for Euphoria season 3 because the biggest hurdle for the Zendaya-fronted drama is that the cast has exploded in popularity since the series' overnight success, making reuniting them to film future episodes a logistical nightmare.

Skins season 7 worked because it mimicked real life in that many people aren't friends with the same people as in their formative years. With Euphoria season 3's confirmed time jump, it would be far more feasible to produce the upcoming installment as standalone episodes revealing what happened to the best characters. The unique approach also allows cast members to be absent from certain episodes. This idea would make producing season 3 much easier because it would mean the cast isn't expected to commit to a full season.

Euphoria Season 3 Has To End HBO Drama

Euphoria Is Becoming A Nightmare For Everyone Involved

By the time Euphoria season 3 premieres, the series will have been off the air for over three years. With the ensemble's careers away from the show not slowing down, it's hard to imagine that the wait between seasons will shorten if HBO orders Euphoria season 4. Plus, with the uncertainty surrounding whether Euphoria season 3 will even be made, ending the show while there's still interest makes the most sense.

Following select characters is the best strategy because it allows the creatives to omit those that are no longer necessary to the storyline. One of Euphoria season 2's biggest problems was that it tried to serve too many characters at once, so scaling things back may be the only way to make the next chapter worthwhile. Unfortunately, Angus Cloud passed away before his Fez's story was concluded, but Euphoria season 3 would benefit from closing out the character's arc even if he's only mentioned briefly.

Euphoria season 3 is currently scheduled to premiere on HBO in 2025.
